A family member is messing up my wedding.

A drink will helpWedding drama at its best

It’s a scene from your worst nightmare. Of all people, you have a family member who is messing up your wedding.

You worked so hard on your wedding planning and this happens.

I remember interviewing a friend of mine who was having problems with her own mother. Yes you heard me, her own mother! The mother thought she was planning her own wedding and was basically making all decisions. And they weren’t good decisions.

I heard of another story from a girl whose drunken sister was messing up her wedding. The drunken sister arrived 5 days before the wedding and right from the beginning was causing trouble. During the rehearsal dinner she had to many margaritas and started letting out every feeling of jealousy and resentment inside of her. It was a total nightmare. There are many types of drunks; there are the ones that get silly, the ones that get annoying and there is the worst kind, the ones that get mean. This poor girl’s sister was that kind of drunk.

Then there’s the story of the mother-in-law who on the last week decides she wants, all of a sudden, to invite 4 of her friends from her yoga class, without telling her.

Yes these things do happen. What do you do when this happens or what  can you do to avoid it?

Those are very good questions and there’s probably a lot of good answers depending on the situation. But first, always remind yourself that it’s your wedding. It’s all about you and your future spouse being happy.

Here are some suggestions from some people I have interviewed:

Within a month, Maria had gained 5 pounds. Yes, 5 pounds. As you can imagine this made her even more depressed.

Lucky for Maria, she has an older sister, named Carmen, who cares a lot about her. Carmen hearing about the stress that Maria was going through invited her over for the weekend. So of Maria went to the beautiful mountains of New Hampshire. Visiting her sister for the weekend was the best thing Maria did that month for her wedding planning.
