It’s a scene from your worst nightmare. Of all people, you have a family member who is messing up your wedding.
You worked so hard on your wedding planning and this happens.
I remember interviewing a friend of mine who was having problems with her own mother. Yes you heard me, her own mother! The mother thought she was planning her own wedding and was basically making all decisions. And they weren’t good decisions.
I heard of another story from a girl whose drunken sister was messing up her wedding. The drunken sister arrived 5 days before the wedding and right from the beginning was causing trouble. During the rehearsal dinner she had to many margaritas and started letting out every feeling of jealousy and resentment inside of her. It was a total nightmare. There are many types of drunks; there are the ones that get silly, the ones that get annoying and there is the worst kind, the ones that get mean. This poor girl’s sister was that kind of drunk.
Then there’s the story of the mother-in-law who on the last week decides she wants, all of a sudden, to invite 4 of her friends from her yoga class, without telling her.
Yes these things do happen. What do you do when this happens or what can you do to avoid it?
Those are very good questions and there’s probably a lot of good answers depending on the situation. But first, always remind yourself that it’s your wedding. It’s all about you and your future spouse being happy.
